Kids Voting Ohio Receives Grant from Martha Holden Jennings Foundation to Expand Civic Education Across Ohio Schools
COLUMBUS, OHIO — Kids Voting Ohio (KVO) is proud to announce it has been awarded a grant from the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation to support its statewide efforts in civic education, helping prepare Ohio’s next generation of voters.
This $15,000 grant will allow KVO to expand its flagship programs, including hands-on mock elections for students in grades 3–12 and voter registration drives targeting high school juniors and seniors. Through these initiatives, students gain real-world understanding of the democratic process—moving from classroom learning to active civic participation.
“We are honored to receive this support from the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation,” said Mike Collins, Executive Director of Kids Voting Ohio. “This funding will directly support thousands of students and hundreds of educators across the state, helping young people gain confidence in their ability to understand and engage in our democracy.”
As Ohio schools are not required to offer stand-alone civics courses, Kids Voting Ohio plays a critical role in filling this gap with standards-aligned, developmentally appropriate programming that is offered at no cost to schools or districts. The grant will also help fund training for teachers and the use of the Double Click Democracy online election simulation platform.
Kids Voting Ohio is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to building lifelong civic habits by giving students meaningful opportunities to participate in the democratic process—before they reach voting age.
